We believe the Ohio River belongs to everyone, and the fight for its health and scenic beauty is never over. Here is what might have happened without River Fields standing up for what’s right for the river:
- More than 2,300 beautiful acres across three counties would be vulnerable to development into office parks, parking lots, malls, and industrial facilities;
- A barge repair facility might be endangering the beauty and delicate ecology of Six Mile Island;
- A sand and gravel company with barges loading on the river would be located close to West Point, one of the oldest towns in Kentucky and a critical Civil War fort;
- A strip mall and a two-story glass and steel building with a used car lot would be on River Road between Zorn Avenue and Mockingbird Valley Road;
- Garvin Brown Preserve would be a subdivision instead of publicly-accessible wildflower meadows, wetlands, and woods;
- A coal-processing plant would be on the river between Beargrass Creek and Zorn Avenue;
- And those are just a few of our big wins.
We continue to protect and advocate for the Ohio River’s natural and cultural treasures, and your donation helps us:
- Serve as a leading voice for sustainable development and thoughtful planning in the Ohio River Corridor;
- Offer nature programming to the public and to teens in foster care at the Home of the Innocents;
- Follow the highest standards of professional standards and practice in accordance with the Land Trust Alliance;
- Protect more than 2,300 acres of meadows, forest, shoreline and historic properties – twice the size of New York’s Central Park – forever;
- Work tirelessly to leave future generations a legacy of fresh water, beauty, strength, and a sense of place.
Donate to River Fields today! We rely 95% on our generous members to carry out mission-critical work.
